Escape from Twilight is the debut album of the Greece melodic power metal band Emerald Sun. Although Emerald Sun was founded in 1998, the band only released two demos in the last nine years, `Sword Of Light` and `High In The Sky`. In 2005 they recorded their debut album. Now the release of `Escape from Twilight` is a fact. The album includes the two demos. Emerald Sun`s music is best described as a mix of Edguy , Gamma Ray and Helloween at the time of the superb `Master of the Seven Keys` albums.

Fact is that the sound of the album is great. The vocals of Jimmy Santrazami are typical power metal vocals with some high screams; they fit the music very well. The riffs and solo`s of Johnny Athanasiadi and Teo Savage remind of Helloween. Sometimes the production sounds overdone, almost too perfect. Because of that, the riffs, the vocals and the solos don`t sound as powerful as they should be.
‘High In The Sky’ is an up-tempo song that halfway slows down to speed up after a while again with a fast guitar solo, just like the famous Keeper songs of Helloween.

‘Scream and Loud’ is again a typical Helloween song; same riffs, same solo`s, same melody and with a lot of double bass drums and fast bass playing.
The only difference are the keyboards, although the emphasis is on the guitars. On the ballad ‘Eyes of Prophecy’, ‘Sword of the Light` (Symphonic influences) and the song ‘Emerald Sun’ (an instrumental), the keyboards are clearly audible. The two last songs of the album are songs worth mentioning. ‘The Story Begins’ is full of Rhapsody influences and ‘Not Alone’ is a great semi-ballad. Both songs are different from the other album and have a great sound. It is a pity that not the entire album is recorded with this sound.

If you like power metal of the eighties, like the old Helloween stuff, then Emerald Sun is for you. Speedy power metal with an unexpected ending. I guess the real power metal fan likes the fast songs more than the last two songs, but I like them.
