First I want to start with complimenting this great album of Paradise Lost. The sound is very clear and the production is great. The opening song ‘Never For the Damned’ starts with a recognizable gothic synth fast followed by the drums to explode in a real goth rocker with a big jug 80’s thrash metal. Ok honestly the song sounds like a very good Metallica song. But this with the typical Paradise lost goth sound in it. The following songs are a variation of this great 80’s thrash with the goth/doom sound. Tracks like ‘Requiem’ and ‘Prelude to Descent’ more thrash metal and ‘Unreachable’ more a clean accessible rocksong.

The voice of frontman Nick Holmes, a variation of his old school Hetfield like voice with grunts and clean singing, is in great shape. Drums and guitar riffs are heavy and the melodic guitar solo’s are well fitted in the songs. For conclussion this is a great 11th album of a band who has stand through a small identity problem in the past. But they have now found, in my opinion, the right ‘heavy metal’ path.
