I only heard a few songs of Job For A Cowboy’s previous album. The impression I got from them was a nice combination of brutal modern deathmetal and some massive breakdowns. Together with Despiced Icon and All Shall Perish (who use the same elements) JFAC can be named as one of the most promising newcomers. With Genesis they certainly confirm these suspicions, because this album is great. The breakdown parts have completely disappeared and JFAC can’t be linked to hardcore or metalcore anymore. A band that came into mind right away when hearing Genesis for the first time was The Red Chord. Let’s call it a combination of death, trash and a little math.

Another great thing of Genesis is the way the album is balanced. It’s not just 10 high-speed blastbeat songs. Within the songs there are a lot of tempo changes and also the use of thrash-riffs and some mid-tempo parts make Genesis into an album that can be enjoyed from the beginning till the end The fourth and eighth song are some sort of intro’s that could easily fit a horror movie.

Some may call them fillers, but they really contribute to the album. The Divine Falsehood is a really great atmospheric mid-tempo song that’s totally different from the rest of the songs but still fits the album perfectly. These three songs give Genesis diversity, and that’s something I personally miss a lot listening to deathmetal.

Genesis is a solid and well over thought album that doesn’t bore one second. I expect this album to take Job For A Cowboy to the next level. This album is probably going to end in my top 5 albums of the year, simply because it’s great. For people who are into bands like The Red Chord, Cephalic Carnage, Misery Index, Cryptopsy, All Shall Perish, Aborted and The Black Dahlia Murder this disc is highly recommended.
