Sometimes when I listen to a record I get the ‘what if...’ feeling. ‘What if this band had another singer’ or ‘what if the band used different production’ but mostly it’s ‘ what if the band waited until they had enough quality songs and then recorded an album’. Said last question was raised while listening to Born To lose’s latest outing ‘Old Scars’.

Then I discovered this is a compilation of some records and 7 inches they released in the past. And we hang on to that; it’s an overview of the past years of Born To Lose. Let’s hope they keep on making promising songs like on the last part of this record.
Soms songs have that potential. Like ‘Worst Day Of The Rest Of My Life’, ‘My Life’ and the sublime ‘Shades Of Grey’. But those are of such a high quality that the rest kind of evades from the these songs. Melodical streetpunk/hardcore with a high singalong factor is doing good in the summer while drinking loads of beer in the sun.

Because the climate is fucked up in Holland and since we only have sunny days here I was listening to this record in march and april. Well...

Born To Lose definitely have talent, and `Old Scars` is a nice showcase of that fact. The songs are breathe out a smell that reminds me of beer and friendship. Important with this music: you have to sing along after listening to it once. While drunk. I absolutely think Born to Lose can deliver us a classic punkrockrecord and therefore I’m looking forward to their next studio record. Till then, let’s knock eachother under the table, raise a glass and sing with these songs. When you’re hangover is getting irritating, you will get their new effort.
