Since Caliban inked a deal with Roadrunner Records a few years ago they haven`t released a killer album like they did with The Spilt Program (off course the first part) and Vent, I loved those albums. Since The Opposite Within the band tries to force something. The band wants to sound as a renewer, but they`re far from that.
Donīt get me wrong, the musicians from Caliban are great and vocalist Andreas Dörner still has a great voice. But this band is forcing something. They release an album every year and there isnīt really any difference between the last three albums.
When you already own The Opposite From Within or The Undying Darkness you can leave this new album in the store and spent your money on another album.
Caliban sounds more and more like Killswitch and in their attempt to release as much records in a short time as possible, they forgot to compose some good and spectacular songs. | |
As I mentioned before, thereīs nothing wrong with the quality of the musicians. They play songs with nice mosh parts and the audience will go crazy at a Caliban gig. But for a band with such a status itīs a real pity that they keep making albums that sounds as millions of other bands. They only have to learn to write great and renewable songs and Iīm sure they can do that (they did it in the past).
The Awakening is a good album for people who love Killswitch and the "new" Caliban sound. But donīt expect anything special on this one, itīs just an album with good songs; played by good musicians and mixed by the master Adam Dutkiewicz from Killswitch. If the band keeps going at this rate I expect to receive the new Caliban somewhere at the end of 2007.
