After six years they return.
It took them a while to come up with the follow-up of their album “The Last Dance”. But finally, here it is, the new album of old time art rockers Bob Catley, Tony Clarkin, and Mark Stanway of “Magnum”, completed with Al Barrow on bass. You can hear the years of experience these guys have in composing. The song structures and choice of composition are very well organised. Maybe a bit too much. This album reminds me of the third “Boston” album, which also took such a long time, and was not as sparkling as the former albums. | |
“Breath of Life” first gave me the impression of being some kind of “musical wallpaper”, everything perfectly balanced and performed, but no real highlights. If I have to mention a few: opener “Cry” has got a nice drive, and the guitar solo in “Night after Night” is a beauty; pity the song itself needs more fire. Wonder if this album will produce some “classics”, and prove me wrong. Maybe it has to grow.
