The road through ‘Idiotstreet’ is like a funky rock & rollercoaster. The Dutch band Them Apples are aiming for gold with this debut.
With a very clear recording it sounds a bit more polished than live on stage, but overall it`s a good production. All the songs have very hilarious lyrics about the dayly aspects of life like beer and being broke (probably because of buying to much beer). Them Apples have created a cool sound with this musical combination of bands like, R.H.C.P., Primus, Pantera, Frank Zappa and Danko Jones.
‘Lettuce’, the opening song is a smooth and heavy instrumental. A cold dish to warm up, Lettuce never tasted this good. After that it follows with `Amy Young`, a funk pop song which has a really catchy sound. Track number three, ‘Bathtub’ and ‘Jerome’ are full with great Les Claypool-like bass guitar parts. The lead vocals sounds a bit like a cleaner Danko Jones but also with enough screaming power in it to convince.
Also the guitar play and drums on this album are exceptional. The mix of multiple genres is perfectly blended. This blend clearly comes forward in `Ring A Ding`. It starts funky with cool backing vocals to evolve into a real metal song. With ‘Broke’ they take it a little slower with a painfully recognizable theme.

With ‘Dance’, the rock & rollercoaster speeds up and takes some real cool spins, cool guitar play with sharp hooks in it. It`s time to practise your whistle so you can whistle and sing along with the title track ‘Idiotstreet’. I think that the song ‘Juice’ is one of the favorites of their audience already, with the catchy `Hey Yeahs` in it, it really invites you to scream along.
Them Apples have dedicated ‘Idiotstreet’ to Dimebag Darrel (r.i.p.), the Pantera guitar hero so they have put a little Dimebag in ‘When the Devil is around’ a heavy song that ends with a cool grunt. The instrumental parts show that they have real good skills. In ‘Dressed Lettuce’ they show off their qualities on the instruments with the same concept as `Lettuce`, switching from funk to heavy rock. ‘Climb the Cranes’ is a real Danko Jones-like punkrocker and ‘Nothing’ is a grooving funkmetal song, also of high quality. The finisher is a Red Hot Chilli Peppers-like song about my favorite subject( besides music) ‘Beer’, with the Them Apples ingredients in it. So to conclude: ‘Idiot Street’ is a perfect debut full length that sounds really promising.
