What do you get when you put Joost de Graaf from Discipline, Victor Nefkens from Badlands and two other guys together in the studio. No, you’re wrong. You don’t get the standard OI!, hardcore, skin, punk sound. You get a mature punkrock sound.
Soultamer is a new band and they just released their debut album on a new label called Rough Diamond Records.
As I mentioned you hear punkrock on The Remedy Comes In Disguise. The songs are a little bit dull to be honest. The song "Feel It" for example has got a very long interlude with a solo. This solo itself is fine but the song just dies with the vocals that follow. What a strange way to close a song!
These guys sat together to make a rock album instead of an OI!, punk, hardcore album. They make some mistakes though. First of all they thought that every rock song needs to last more than ten minutes. Some Soultamer are pretty cool, but simply way to lengthy. | |
The second things that bothers me are the lyrics, which are full of sensitive, girly stuff, not suited for most rockers at all.
When these guys work as hard as they worked with the other bands they definitely can grow to a higher level and I really want to give a big thumbs up to Joost for his superb vocals.
Before I make an end of this review I really need to say that this cover is ugly. I have honestly never seen such an ugly cover in my life. Four guys trying to be an evil bastard with a bald skinhead head-dress. This just doens`t look cool, but plain stupid. The band look a bit like sissy’s (I hope I never run into these guys in a dark alley).
Yet, Rough Diamond Records released a fine album and when these OI! Skins work hard on their song writing and lyric writing they should be able to surprise us in the near future.
