After a six-year break the Sweden band Lion’s Share has created their fifth album. After all these years the band round mastermind Lars Chriss has awoken from a coma, perhaps that is the reason the album is called “Emotional Coma”. The band has become heavier but I’m not quite sure it is the right direction. With Patric Johansson the band has a strong singer but on the heavy up-tempo songs he sounds some forced, at the mid and slow tempo songs his power finds real expression. Of course the solos of Lars Chriss are absolutely great. The band got some help from several guest appearances, like Bruce Kulick (KISS), Glen Drover (Megadeath) and Mats Levén (Malmsteen, At Vance and Therion).
The vocals of Johansson are quite rough but very powerful; however on the fast songs like ‘Clones of Fate’ Johansson can’t convince me; his singing sounds some forced.

‘Soultaker’ and ‘The Arsonist’ are performed strong however, these up-tempo songs sound great. The solos on these songs are terrific. The band is at its best when they don’t go full speed ahead. ‘The Edge of Razor’, ‘Bloodstained Soil’ and the title song) are all performed very convinced. The title song is a slow-tempo with guest appearance of Drover; heavy parts are alternated by semi acoustic parts and the emotional guitar solos are absolutely great; all these elements make the title song to an impressive metal song. With Emotional Coma Lion’s Share has made an end to a period of silence of 6 years. All in one it surely isn’t a bad album especially the less fast songs are performed great; therefore the bands gets advantage of doubt.
