The Italian band Memories Lab fits the progressive metal world. It’s best described as a pure form of progressive metal with a somewhat rough mix; therefore it sounds slightly dull but if you listen the album several times the songs become better and better. Of course their main influence is Dream Theater, but I noticed some Queensryche as well.

‘Epilogue: A New Beginning’ is a dreamy intro followed by the progressive ‘Hydra’; last song has a few quiet moments but also real heavy parts with double bass drums.

The clear vocals are rather emotional as are the guitar solos. ‘Final Day’ starts with a typical Queensryche intro, the song changes in a progressive way with jazzy and heavy influences.

For progressive metal fans Memories Lab is very interesting, sometimes a bit experimental, but mostly just great progressive metal. A little minus point is the bass guitar. It has been recorded too loud and therefore it dominating the overall sound just too much.
