The second record of Sleepy time gorilla museum I receive this year. Last time I was somewhat surprised of the strange theatrical music STGM makes. A mix of Fantomas, Melvins and Mr.Bungle mixed with a lot of theatre. This outing, ‘ In glorious Times’ doesn’t surprise me that much – I knew what I had to expect – but it’s the best thing I’ve heard from STGM to date.

Opener ‘ The Companions’ is a ten minute monster full of a variety of voices, droning bassdrum and Spartan sounding guitar lines. It has a sinister sphere over it – I had to think of that theatre scene in Mulholland Drive – wich creeps under your skin. ‘ Helpless Corpses Enactment’ brings you more mr.bungle and fantomas influences. It goes from A to Z with these strange fellows, but if you give this type of music some attention you will like it and be amazed at the same time.

However, the minus on this record is the playing time. I couldn’t focus my attention during this record. Sometimes there are too many ideas and too many parts that it becomes kind of irritating. But fans of aforementioned bands wouldn’t have a problem with this.

According to their last record, GTSM made a leap forward with more structure, more sphere and more genius ideas. And it might sound like improvisations, I guess every note on this record is where it belongs and is being thought about. But it`s hard to rate this album. Considering the whole package and originality i came up with the rating below. Interesting band, this GTSM.
