The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) was the beginning of many great bands, like Saxon, Maiden but Blitzkrieg. ‘Theatre Of the Damned’ is the new album of this English band; this music has the atmosphere of the old school metal of the 80th. The album reminds me of the album Horror Show of Iced Earth, the similar between both albums is that all songs are based upon horror stories, the differences are that the songs of Iced Earth are much heavier and produced with a more heavy sound. The vocals of Brian Ross are less powerful than his Iced Earth colleague. | |
The songs vary from up-tempo (‘The Phantom’, ‘Blitzkrieg’) to symphonic metal with keyboards (‘The Passing’, a really great song). ‘Tortured Souls’ is worth mentioning because of its groovy riffs. Theatre Of the Damned is an average metal album that would have been a great album in the 80th, but nowadays the music sounds somewhat dated. The guitar solos are the best part of the album. The album might be interesting for fans of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. For more information see www.blitzed-alive.com. (Ralph) |
