The Danish metal band Anubis Gate has developed very much compared with their start in 2003. Anubis Gate has always been a melodic metal band. From their debut album Purification (2004) to the latest release Andromeda Unchained the band increased song writing as well the production a lot, the sound of Andromeda Unchained is superb, a clear but still very heavy sound. Andromeda Unchained is best described as a melodic progressive metal album with a lot of Evergrey influences, especially the riffs are Evergrey oriented. The music has more resemblances with progressive bands as Fates Warning than with bands like Dream Theater. The rhythms and atmospheres vary a lot; then quiet and the next moment a lot of double bass drumming. The voices of singer Jacob Hansen are great.

The average time of a song is about 5:30 minutes. Andromeda Unchained sounds like the work of one band, all members have the same share in the performances of the songs. This is a strong point, actually the album doesn’t have any minus point at all. The epic ‘The End Of The Millenium’ is the highlight of the album. The song takes over 10 minutes but isn’t boring anytime because of the many different atmospheres and rhythms; just simply a masterpiece. Anubis Gate has made a superb album. It will be hard to make an album that will be equal or better Andromeda Unchained. To all progressive metal fans, just buy this album!
