Ephel Duath managed to surprise me again. Watching this band live for the first time was a mind blowing revelation, nothing compared to the experience of listening to the band on album. Now they shock the fan base with Pain Remixes the Known. I for one was expecting another metal jazz mayhem, but I should have known better. Expect the unexpected! This time the band brings us an ambitious, ambient, electronic, avant garde remix of their previous album Pain Necessary to Know. Well to start of, if you’re not familiar with that album, you will have a hard time admiring the beauty, actually if you are a fan you will also have a hard time figuring this one out.

To be honest, if I didn’t know anything about this band I would have probably never have rated this remix album any higher than 5 out of 10. Fact is that the guts to remix a previous album is such an original and intriguing way alone makes me admire Ephel Duath even more than I already did.
