I was excited when I got the chance to review the new As I Lay Dying record "An ocean between us".
I’ve been a big fan of the band since their first release "A Long March: The First Recordings". The new album was available for fans to listen to on MySpace on 17th of August 2007. For mixing the band got some help from Bullet for My Valentine’s Colin Richardson. So I was curious what this collaboration had brought us.

And my excitement was all worth it. "An Ocean Between Us" rocked my world, literally. The band took some risks though, as they got themselves a new bass-player/vocalist, his name: Josh Gilbert.

Although I have to say that I don’t hear that much difference with the previous albums. They have always been heavy and maybe aggressive, so at this point "An ocean between us" goes down the same lane. I did notice some melodic sounds occasionally. "I Never Wanted" is one example and then there is the instrumental "Departed".

So if you like As I Lay Dying before don’t hesitate to get your copy of "An ocean between us". If this is the first time you hear of the band, I tell you the same. It`s worth your money.
