For all the older hard rock fans the new album of Lillian Axe, Waters Rising, might be interesting. Waters Rising has all elements of the period of the 70th hard rock of the last century. The atmosphere of the album is rather depressive, the production sounds somewhat dark; this contributes the atmosphere. The style of music is best described as psychedelic rock, with an emphasis on psychedelic. The cover of the album forms the perfect picture of the music of Waters Rising, sometimes rock and sometimes drugged by mushrooms.

The first part of the album is heavy more rock oriented, the emphasis of the second part is laid upon psychedelic and acoustic elements.

‘Become a monster’ has groovy heavy riffs; ‘Quarantine’ has typical Led Zeppelin riffs, ‘Antartica’ is the most heavy song with some doom influences. ‘Fields of Yesterday’ is a sort of ballad that takes over 8 minutes, it reminds me of the acoustic songs of Extreme, ‘Deep in the Black’ is an epic psychedelic song that also takes over 8 minutes. The instrumental ‘5’ is surely the most heavy track.

Waters Rising is an album that is based upon elements the hard rock of the 70th, if you like psychedelic rock it might be worth listening also.
