The music Baroness from Georgia makes is hard to describe. Nowadays the term postcore is used to explain the music bands as Mastodon, Cult Of Luna and Isis make. Baroness fits this group perfectly as the band has surely listened to the bands mentioned above mixed with some Zeppelin.

The red album sure has its moments and the formula of melodic rock with ‘Mastodonish’ riffs combined with the intense core parts really keeps things interesting. But where Mastodon stays interesting Baroness lose my attention.

The songs aren’t structured enough to stay focused the entire time. A typical 5 song cd for me, I can’t hold on for 10 songs + bonustrack (well for the bonustrack I wouldn’t buy this album).

The red album is a technically good album and the production really fits the music as well. For me the songwriting is too complex, which makes listening to the entire album a really hard task. But if you’re into the bands mentioned above, maybe baroness is something you’ll really enjoy.
