Like a rock and roll band just discovered Mastodon and deicide to give it a try with Roger Miret on vocals. That’s how Coliseum sounds to me.

This the debut album of Coliseum on Relapse Records. They’ve found the perfect label for their music. On first hearing you think ‘hey a cool rock and roll band’ . But when you listen carefully you notice the tempo breaks, the mastodon-a-like drum patterns, the Alabama Thunderpussy influenced parts on the riffs and the combination of hardcore/punk and rock and roll structures.

Colisieum is an enthousastic energetic type of band, but they show they also can release some pressure and make a good use of dynamic parts. In a song like ‘Profetas’ they almost sounds like Neurosis on speed. That makes this record pretty diverse but also asks something from the listener. But experienced relapse worshippers will definitely dig this band. And so do people who like their rock and roll a different way than the 1,2,3 go parts. Surprising debut.
