Take four Swiss musicians with a predilection of rock music like AC/DC and a singer with the voice that sounds like a combination of Bon Scott (AC/DC) and Steven Tyler (Aerosmith). The result is predictable; hard rock songs of the 80th. The performance however is well done and the album Maeder has a bright production. The songs on Maeder varies from up tempo (‘It’s all Good’), mid-tempo (‘Never Last’) and slow-tempo ones (‘Future Story’). Most songs are comparable with the early AC/CD period, straight on riffs and rhythm section, the typical Bon Scott sound and the real Angus Young riffs except ‘No Grass Is Greener Than Your Own’; the songs sounds like Aerosmith.

So is this debut album origin, no it absolutely isn’t origin. The band took sounds and riffs from bands mentioned above and put these elements together. Is it boring? The answer is no; although the sound isn’t origin the performance is great and the songs are played with a lot of enthusiasm. If you like strait heavy rock of the 80th you will like Maeder. In my point of view the band has to show her own face and sound on the next album, otherwise it might become a kind of tribute band. (Ralph) |
