Sometimes you’re better off not checking the website of a band while writing a review. I mean how am I going to top this description “the music is representing a mixture of doom, darkness, sadness, horror and gothic beauty with heaviness and melodies" by Michelle Darksess self? Well I probably don’t have to. Let me focus on a question that is probably on everyone’s mind. How good is Michelle Darkness without his collegues of End of Green? Well I can assure you that this solo effort is different from the stuff we know from End of Green. Michelle Darkness is much more doom and atmospheric orientated than End of Green, yet misses the energy of this band.

Maybe this is why at first listening Brand New Drug sounds somewhat boring. The fact that Michelle Darkness playes all instruments self might also have something to with this. It must be very, very hard to come up with all kinds of different tunes, idea’s and sounds if you’re writing all by yourself. The only external imput came from Joy Division. Michelle Darkness covered their “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, a duett with Finnish fem fatale Hanna Pakarinen. This is a typical single intended to make this release commercialy more interesting (not so black Mr. Darkness). Overall Brand New Drug is worth listening to, yet nothing out of the ordinairy.
