Courting Tragedy And Disaster (Himsa’s break through album) is still my favourite album all-time. That album was almost brilliant. After CTAD they released Hail Horror; it was nice nothing more, nothing less.
Their newest effort is called Summon In Thunder and the most important aspect of the album is the comeback of guitarplayer Sammi Curr (he wrote most of the songs on CTAD).
With Sammi on guitar a new label (Century Media) Himsa should be ready to conquer the world.
The album is full of variety, tempo changes, catchy riffs and the great voice of Johnny Pettibone. This guy has got a very special sounding voice, when you`ve ever heard a Himsa song you know what I mean.
Himsa makes a good combination between the old and new thrash metal. Call it some kind of America thrash metal with a lot of Swedish influences.
For producing, mixing, recording and so on Himsa hired some kind of dream team. | |
Steve Carter did the production (he’s also responsible for Courting Tragedy And Disaster), Devin Townsend produced the vocals (Lamb Of God, Darkest Hour) and Tue Madsen mixed and mastered everything (does this guy still need an introduction?). You can imagine the great sound this album has.
Himsa will not make a Courting Tragedy And Disaster anymore. That means that you don’t need to compare their new work with this classic album.
Summon In Thunder is a great follow up after the disappointing Hail Horror. Himsa is always on tour and when you`ve seen their DVD you know that they know how to destroy a venue.
