The Swedish YVONNE originally started as a cover band of acts like The Cure, Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine. That explains why their international debut CD got its roots in the eighties. “Lost In The City” is however more than just a typical eighties record. YVONNE has the ability to change their music into different directions. Sometimes it’s got a melancholical influence, but the next song can be rocky (think current acts like Primal Scream and Feeder for instance). There’s one thing that all songs have in common though, it’s music written well and performed greatly. Best song is probably the melancholical ‘Lost In The City’, in which the band works together with female singer Karin Dreijer of Honey Is Cool & The Knife. It’s strange that every song has that familiar feeling to it. | |
Every time that you listen to this album you have the feeling that you have heard this before...
If it’s the first single ‘Bad Dream’ , the danceable ‘Falling Down’, the ballad ‘Put Me At Ease’, the whining ‘Enough Is Enough’ or the Britpop-like ‘Burning Cars’ and ‘Started Out’, YVONNE never loses control. For some people that could be disappointing, but if you’re into nice to listen to rock/pop music this one is a good one. Only a pity that there are three small instrumentals on this record and that the CD ends with a song (‘Hit That City’) you can expect from any poppy boy band around. In the end however “Lost In The City” is a good album that won’t let you down for a second, although that’s not too hard if the record only takes 36.51 minutes…
