With their 3rd album “Only Human”, guitarist Olaf Lenk and singer Oliver Hartmann continue on the musical road of their band “At Vance”. Again strongly influenced by “Malmsteen” and “Rainbow”, this album’s up tempo songs are somewhere between “Odyssee” and “Difficult to Cure” of the bands earlier mentioned. “Rainbow” influences are even presented in a great cover version of the classic “I Surrender”. As for the other songs: it’s all been done before, but few times with such good production, which is massive, yet very clear. Most of the time, this band with a voice like Joe Lynn Turner at his best, and vocal lines reminding of “Dio” and “Tony Martin”, mixes the best of classic hard rock. | |
The guitar riffs are somewhere between “Malmsteen”, and “Blackmore”, with some Jake E Lee licks, completed with skilful bass and drums, with lots of double bass to speed it up. When it comes to the slower songs, this band lacks emotion. There where bands like “Rainbow” could add something extra, without hiding behind technical tricks, this band still has to grow. (Cor) |
