On their fourth album Orange Goblin take of furiously with Your World With Hate This. One of their fastest efforts so far. It`s almost punk rock but the riff is heavy as hell. It`ll wake you up for sure. The whole album seems to be a bit faster and more agressive than they ever were before. It`s mainly Ben Wards singing that has changed though. He shouts and spits out the words like he`s pissed off and the whole world can bugger off. Well, let them. Orange Goblin is here to get drunk and raise hell. And they do raise hell on Coupe The Grace. There`s room for mid tempo and slower stuff as well. Made Of Rats for example. With Black Sabbath riffs and John Garcia from Kyuss/Unida doing the guest vocals it gets pretty stoner. John Garcia does guest vocals on Jesus Beater as well. Nice one. There`s another Kyuss connection on this album. It`s been produced by Scott Reeder. Although the bass and bassdrum are a bit blurry he did a good job. | |
To quote Metallica: It`s hard and it`s heavy and dirty and mean. The artwork`s done by Frank Kozak and it kicks ass. It`s styled like a comic book. Every song has its own page in the booklet with lyrics and a drawing to match the subject. Bright colours and a zombie with an axe on the cover. And zombies with axes are always cool! To underline the change towards a more agressive approach Orange Goblin recorded We Bite, written and originaly performed by the Misfits. This one is even faster than Your World Will Hate This. Between all this sonic violence there`s the calmer instrumental Graviton. It adds to the all important diversity of the album. Also important is the fact that the Goblins improved on their songwriting. The intro`s and bridges are never longer than necessary. There are choruses in every song but it never gets too predictable. Their best album so far? I`m not sure, yet. But it`s as close as it can get at least. (Walter) |
