Slowly we are drawn into the world of “7 Years Of Famine”. Opening song ‘The Other Side’ lets us float, for about twelve minutes, into a sleepy state of awareness filled with electronics and some (African) percussion. ‘One Eyed Man’ wakes us up with some heavy beats and some shouts. You can compare this song with the likes of Feindflug, although the percussion isn’t so massive as with this German band. ‘The Burning Hand’ starts with tribal percussion, before we are slowly pulled into a more electronics-based world. The song keeps that danceable tribal feeling though (and that for almost twelve minutes). ‘Les Signes Dans Le Désert’ slows it down a bit, but it keeps the tension going at first. After four minutes however, this is the first song that lacks the diversity THIS MORN’OMINA had before and grows out to be a little pain in the behind (for some seven and a half minutes more).

Next song ‘(The) Fires Within’ takes us back into the tribal-oriented danceable tracks, but just doesn’t have the quality we’ve heard in the first three songs. It’s repeating itself more than it ought to. It’s a good (live) floor filler though. ‘Currents’ is a tranquilliser we are used to hearing from Frontline Assembly at his darkest. ‘Monad’ is also a spaced out version in which we slowly float out of the world of “7 Years Of Famine”. THIS MORN’OMINA created an album that’s lovely to listen and to dance to, but sometimes lacks the finesse to keep you concentrated for all those long songs…
