Brazilian deathmetalheads Mental Horror boast about their technically skilled musicianship and having the most extreme drumming ever heard. Extreme drumming? No way. Extremely boring drumming. That`s what it is. Every song has blast beats from beginning to end. Drummer Robles Dresch doesn`t even bother to stop his double bassdrums when he plays fills or rolls with his hands. Because of that even the breaks sound as if nothing happens. You have to listen carefully if you want to hear them. There`s nothing technical about the guitars either. Just standard death metal riffs like many bands used to play in the early nineties. | |
And the solo`s aren`t very spectacular as well. So let`s look at this record from a different point af view. It`s Mental Horror`s debut album. After two demo tapes and a split album with Queiron the Brazilian label Mutilation Records they were signed by Displeased. For a debut album it`s not bad. Except for the total lack of variation in the drums of course..... I mean, 62 minutes of exactly the same drumbeat in exactly the same tempo.... are you being serious here? (Walter) |
