Kittie eat your heart out! If you thought their vocalist is bit nasty meet their evil sister (together with her big brothers) Otep and your ears will be blessed…
The album is called “Jihad”, which means “holy war”. Quite a tricky name to call your album these days. But somehow Otep needs this confrontation. Bringing this concept to it most purest and oldest form. Highly inspired by thoughts and believes of the old Egyptians.
Well, that’s what you might think when you see their CD cover and watch their internet site www.otepsaves.com. At least I did.
To be honest I’m not really sure if I share all their ideas, but I have to admit that they brought out a very strong and innovative EP. It consists of 5 songs that all have their own identity. It starts off almost hypnotic with “Possession”, followed by the catchy (forgive me for using this word) “The Lord is my weapon”, claustrophobic and dark “Germ”, angry “Fillthee” and last but not least “T. | |
R.I.C.”. After that you may enjoy the silence but I thought it was a pity that this EP didn’t continue. Which is a pretty good sign I guess!
The sound of Otep somehow reminds me of Guano Apes with the big difference that they are far more brutal in sound and vocals. This girl grunts like a metal beast!
I do hope to hear more from this band in the near future, ‘cause they surely have the potential to become huge. And with that they will be able to expose their ideas.
Make it more clear and understandable to me…
Till then, I just enjoy listening to their splendid EP and hope to see them live some day.
Peace!
