Strong, unexpected and totally refreshing, Creed’s new CD “Weathered” starts of with “Bullets”. Strong, raw and pretty non compromising for a band like Creed. I was stunned!
And indeed there are some experimental moments on this album, more than I expected. If you listen to a song like “Who’s got my back” you might get your hopes up. But Creed wouldn’t be themselves if they didn’t put a handful of tragic, emotional, rock ballads on this album. We all know their hit single “My sacrifice”. Well, songs like “One last breath”, “Weathered” and “Don’t stop dancing” are truly of this same level.
To be honest “Weathered” is a very well thought of and balanced album. Mostly filled with American Rock Music without getting extreme or surprising. But yet solid and intense.
A few years ago I opened up my ears for Creed when they were one of the new breed, and the expectations for this band were very high. | |
They played Paradiso and I wasn’t sure what to expect. At least a “good” looking front man ‘cause the place was packed with girls! Their show was actually not more than a one man show of Scott Stapp (lyrics/vocals) and I wasn’t that much impressed. Maybe that’s why I’m so cynical about this band.
Which is actually a shame ‘cause this band isn’t that bad. They have enough inside to make a difference but still choose to play it save. You can hear that they’re influenced by a band like Alice in Chains but Creed isn’t able to find that level.
If you like music of bands like Kane and Anouk you can buy this album without even listening to it first. It’s (of course) well produced, mixed and filled with all the right tracks. So I can’t give this CD a low rate!
Meanwhile my heart bleeds, I will always be searching for that special spark…
