A Chimaera, for those of you who are curious, is a creature from ancient Greek mythology. It’s got the face of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a dragon (or scorpion). Imagine running into a monster like that at night! A beast like that would blow you away, rip you apart and grind you to pieces… just like the music Chimaira (kim-ear-uh) produces. Combining nu-metal melody and aggression with death metal like riffs and double bass drums, these six guys from Cleveland have created some very intense songs, of which 14 found their way onto Chimaira’s debut ‘Pass out of Existence’.

The songs on this album sound very different from each other, but have one thing in common: they’re all very intense, demanding songs, with lots of riffs, going from fragile to pounding in seconds. I’d say Chimaira have tried to take the best of the nu-metal sound plus the best of old-school (death) metal, any forged it into there own sound. And personally I feel they succeeded. So if you want something brutal, this beast’s for you!
