Christ, it’s time to go back in time… REVEREND BILLY decided to give you four (!!!)new versions of ‘Baggy Trousers’(Madness). The result varies from good to evil. The first song is a catchy electronic dance tune. With its 3:09 minutes it just isn’t too long. Fact is that REVEREND BILLY even has that typical English in his pronunciation. The second attempt, the Gucci Brothers mix, is successful as well. Especially the introduction of saxophone and horn (-sounds?) make this effort worthwhile. The long version is simply a too long version. Maybe it’s because we heard the song two times earlier. It’s just an extended version of the second song. There aren’t too many new ideas woven into this song. The last attempt to create an electronically fitting version next to the classic is called the ‘sweet ‘n’ low vs.

phosgene mix’. This song is the most distant from the original. It’s more like an ambient Underworld track, even with some percussion on it. If they would use other lyrics than ‘Baggy Trousers’ you would have a hard time in discovering the original song behind this one. As the last song we’ve got a different dance tune. ‘I Want You’ is a funny party song. Not with high standards (it even sounds a bit like an easy tuned Apollo Four Forty), but it’s just good enough to bounce up and down on the dance floor. “I want you, that’s all I want…” Well, let`s think about that. Back in time? At this moment Madness is on tour...
