The “Kings of Rock” are back with their new album. For years they have been a guarantee for filthy, aggressive rock and roll with the pedal to the metal. With the Hellacopters they’ve been captains of this ship. And again the Gluecifer guys succeed to deliver an album with steaming rock and roll, the Scandinavian way. The first two songs, though not as dirty as their former stuff (matter of production), give it to you straight in your face. Then with the third song “Losing End” these guys take the first steps into pop-rock (it sounds a bit like early REM). The single “Easy Living” is one that could have been recorded by Billy Idol or even Iggy Pop, but in another way. “Not Enough For You” is a very catchy rocker, although the Herman Brood-like female background vocals weren’t really necessary for me. | |
Further on there is another poppy tune, “It Won’t Be” (with additional slide-guitar!). Besides this, few “experiments”; the album contains good old-fashioned smashing rockers, with more melodic vocals and guitars than ever before. Let there be no mistake, in my opinion, Gluecifer is at its best with its roughly edged rock and roll, and this album proves they’re not afraid to take a sidestep. Although the production is more polished, and the rock and roll not as aggressive, the power is still there, and this album shows more musical skills of the band, on a very diverse album. (Cor) |
