It’s hard to describe certain music. This CYCLOON (a solo project of Axel Kleintjes) creates dark wave/ industrial oriented music. Musically, it can be placed somewhere between Suicide Commando and Skinny Puppy. Especially the last band has had a noticeable influence on the music. The first song (‘Sisemen’) has that danceable dark and heavy industrial we know from Suicide, but the second song ‘Arkain Scent’ definitely has the Skinny Puppy vibe. It even could have been a song from that famous underground (if you can still call SP underground) band. The regressive version of ‘Head Over Now’ sounds more progressive. It’s a dance floor killer if you like this kind of music. The distorted voices combined with up-tempo beats remind us at the best moments of the earlier mentioned Belgian band.

The dark influences on ‘Activated’ (system upgrade version) with female vocals create a contradiction in terms that sounds beautifully. CYCLOON’s interpretation of Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Happiness In Slavery’ is diverse enough to be liked by – even – the biggest fans of NIN, although this version isn’t as overwhelming as the original. ‘Default Set’ (mx 3.0) is a slowly built up obscure song that takes you to a completely demolished industrial world. It’s a soundscape into a disturbing nothingness. You can even hear the countdown. Last song ‘Megabyte’ (Braindanced) on this remix E.P. is a song that combines choirs with a growing beat. Braindanced is absolutely the right word for the outcome of this…
