Oehh!!!…. Yeahh!!!…. Aarghh!!!….This is the fourth album of Warhammer, called “Curse Of The Absolute Eclipse”. And this one is a true revival to the mid-eighties, with a major salute to Hellhammer and Celtic Frost during their glory days of albums like “Morbid Tales” and “Emperor’s Return”.
Starting with an ominous intro “Towards The Temples Of Kandharh” is followed by “Fall Of The Inconoclast” which, of course, begins with a squeaking guitar followed by the well known Aarghh’s and Oehh’s by vocalist Volker Frerich. Ultra rough guitars played by Frank Krynojewski combined with catchy drum-rhythms in their purest form by Jens Küchental complete the sound. “Curse Of The Sabbath” and “Crush The Disbeliever” are some up-tempo tracks; “Inmates Of The Fire” is a mid pace. | |
The last track on this album, “Fear The Reaper” is very catchy, with a kind of sing-along chorus.
Isn’t there anything else to say about this album except the references to Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, well……NO!!!, And I guess that was their intention when forming this band back in 1996; just look at the album cover, you won’t expect the latest Dream Theater I guess….. so if you don’t own a record-player any more and you feel the urge to play your old fuzzy Celtic Frost/Hellhammer records after you’ve read this review, I suggest you check out this one.
