Could it be that Misery Index named themselves after the great second Assuck cd? I wouldn`t be surprised. After bassist/vocalist Jason Netherton left Dying Fetus last year, he started Misery Index with guitarist/vocalist Mike Harrison. Soon drumgod Kevin Talley joined forces after he left Dying Fetus as well. Together they recorded this `Overthrow` cd. After a while guitarist Sparky Voyles joined the band. And guess what? he`s also an ex Dying Fetus member! And Mike Harrison did the lay out for Dying Fetus, and some guest vocals on their last two cd`s. There`s definitely a connection! Mike is also responsible for the cool lay-out this time. It looks very decent. The music is even more than decent. It`s amazing!! Well, that`s no surprise, considering the musical history of each band member. Misery Index play aggressive death/grind with minor hardcore influences. All very tight and fast as diarrhoea on a hot summer day! It reminds me a bit of the best Dying Fetus songs (obvious of course), but Misery Index sure have their own style. They are more grindcore orientated and don`t use guitar solo`s.

And instead of guttural vocals, Jason and Mike rape their vocal chords by aggressive screaming. The compact songs contain enough variation to keep the attention. I played this cd over and over again. Although they are all good musicians, it`s especially Kevin Talley`s inventive drumwork that plays a leading role. His furious blasts, pounding double bass, stirring grooves and flawless fills are every drummer`s wet dream. It is said that he is also a candidate for Slayer`s vacant drumseat. Let`s hope not. He would probably be bored stiff. The cd ends with the Terrorizer cover `The Dead Shall Rise`. Needless to say that this version is just as brilliant as the original. The excellent production is clear, but not too clean. They kept the raw edge. More bands should do that. Death/grind freaks, this quality product is a must-have! Get this now, or regret it for the rest of your life! I ordered it for 11US $ at: Misery Index c/o Mike Harrison, 717 Linden Grove Place #304, Odenton, MD 21113 U$A. You can also order it on their site: www.misery-index.com.
