For those of you who did not yet know it: heavy metal is a religion. And Manowar are both its high priests and its crusaders. From 1982 to now, they have never given up in their battle against the infidels. Their latest victory is called Warriors Of The World.
It kicks off with Call To Arms, Manowar-classic-in-spe, with heavy guitars and a strong voice, exactly what we would expect from them.
Fight For Freedom is a rather quiet Viking anthem, and though it speeds up near the end, it`s none too interesting.
Nessum Dorma, an opera piece, is not my cup of tea. Eric (Adams, singer), I know you love Puccini, play his records at home and sing along as much as you want to. You are a hevy metal-singer. Sing heavy metal.
Valhalla is the introduction to Swords In The Wind, which is Manowars vision on the afterlife. Though I am not too fond of ballads, this one is epic and strong enough to capture my attention. | |
A very interesting piece.
An American Trilogy is a tribute by the Kings of Metal to the King, Elvis. I think the King would have said: You shouldn`t have. And I agree. Skip it.
The March introduces Warriors Of The World United, see the single review for details.
Hand Of Doom is an up-tempo track which gives us heavy metal at its meanest. Finally!
House Of Death idem. Why doesn`t the album have more tracks like these? These kick ass!
Fight Until We Die is, again, an up-tempo ass-kicking heavy metal-song in the true spirit of the faith! Eric even reminds of Rob Halford on this one. A great finale!
The album starts quietly but ends with old-fashioned heavy metal-violence. I can only hope the next album will be nothing but heavy metal-violence, because that is when Manowar is at its very best, reaching the peaks that many bands can only dream of. (Tressy) |
