A classic one, two, three, four, prepares us for some kick-ass rock and roll. The first single “Turn Around” opens the debut album of “FoolsFatal”. A groovy, yet steady rhythm section, catchy riffs and sparkling solo’s, completed with an emotional, powerful voice, strongly reminding of “Eddie Vedder”.
The basic ideas are a mix of traditional 70’s rock and 90’s grunge, but a lot of other influences can be heard. Some poppy stuff as “Bottlefriend”, strong “Extreme” influences in “Victim Of My Game” to funky psychedelic in “Summertime” and heavy stoner rock in “Tears and Pain”. Finally there are a few mellowed-down songs like the beautiful ballad “You Make Me Feel”. | |
Having seen the band live for a few times, I must say: though this is a good album, they have not always succeeded in realising the emotional tension on CD.
Especially the beautiful ballad “Fear Of Flying”, which builds to a climax when played live, has not got the same emotional load. Also a pity for the explosive solo, which gets lost in the special effect samples. Fortunately the producer did a better job with "She Hates Me”, which still has an honest, pretty live sound (and is one of my personal favourites).
Still, this is a band that can be best experienced live!
