Moving to Europe has turned out to be a good decision for these Australian black-metalheads. A bigger scene, more venues and more recording expertise make it a better place for a band that wants to reach a certain level within this genre. Destroyer 666 have improved a lot since their arrival in 1999. All the live shows have made them a tight outfit. Hopefully drummer Chris Menning will stay longer with the band than his predecessors because he`s the best they`ve had so far. Prior to their relocation to Europe the album Phoenix Rising was released. This album has gained the band the `promising` status. So, do they live up to that? I think so. The music hasn`t changed much but the band are more focused and determined.

It`s thrashy black metal. Fast and furious, just the way it should be. 80`s influenced both in sound and in songwriting, yet modern in speed and tightness. On Cold Steel Destroyer 666 sound more balanced and matured. Although the sound is a bit too clean the production is a lot better than on their previous work. One thing I must say: of course you can expect some macho lyrics from these guys but in Raped it gets rather silly: `And She Liked It` . Er, what year are we living in again? So, although not very PC, a good album that any fan can buy and every black/death/thrash metalhead should at least have a go at.
