When I read the description for this CD and band, I got curious to say the least. Hungarian Romas who make nu-metal… Well now, how does that sound? Ektomorf consists of two brothers, Zóltan (vocals and guitars) and Csaba Farkas (bass), and László Kovács (guitars) and József Szakácz (drums). They are all part of the Roma minority in Hungary, which is often discriminated. Though I can’t make out most of the lyrics (they weren’t included in the promo-package and besides that some of them are sung in Hungarian and unfortunately mine’s a bit rusty), the anger of having to deal with discrimination certainly can be heard in their music. Most of the songs on this album sound a lot like Sepultura (on Chaos A.

D.) and Machine Head, but they have integrated some scratching and female vocals in it as well. I hadn’t read the titles of the songs and halfway through the album was one song with a very “poppy” melody. At first I didn’t recognize it, but it was Ektomorf’s version of the famous Beatles song “A Hard Day’s Night”! A few songs later I was surprised again, by a song called “Faudalum Könnyei”, which is a reggae-tune… Overall I like “I Scream Up To The Sky”, though it didn’t strike me as very renewing (except for the reggaebit ofcourse!). If you like Sepultura’s Chaos A.D. and/or Machine Head, you will very probably like this fourth album of Ektomorf as well. It will be released on June 10.
