ATP’s new album released on Relapse? What must we think of that?!? ATP goes grind?!? No way! ATP stay true to their doom-rooted stoner rock. The album may seem hard to digest at first but that goes for all of ATP’s previous albums. The production is a little rougher, perhaps that’s the Relapse twist? Or is it the hand of producer Billy Anderson (Eye Hate God, Sleep, The Melvins, etc.)? The album begins with some hard and up-tempo songs (“Motor-Ready”, “Shapeshifter”) and slips away into more stoner-like rockers. The finishing touch is the swampy acoustic country song “Amounts That Count”.

Business as usual for ATP you might say, but in view of the problems they encountered lately this is quite an effort. Their record company (Man’s Ruin) ceased to exist, there were line-up changes (please welcome Ryan Lake (guitar) and John Peters (bass)) and other obstacles had to be conquered. But as the band states: “The goal of this band has been from day one to kick as much ass as is humanly possible and that is what we will continue to devote ourselves to”. So be it!
