In September Lord Belial entered the Los Angered Recording Studio to record their fourth album ‘Angelgrinder’. The product of their efforts is a well-balanced album, which contains high quality songs.
This album is furious and aggressive, the way black metal is supposed to be. Beside that they haven’t forgotten about the melody and atmosphere. Almost every song contains a guitar-solo, which I think is essential for great songs. This musical aspect is being omitted in many black metal bands and I must admit that the absence of solos is destructive to the songs.
I give my compliment to Lord Belial, for the way they combined fury with melody.
On ‘Angelgrinder’ the following songs are represented: Dominus Bellum (intro), Angelgrinder, Satan Divine, Burn the Kingdom of Christ, Wrath of the Antichrist Horde, Unrelenting Scourge of War, Ungodly Passage, Kingdom of Infinite Grief, Odium Vincit Omnia (outro). | |
One of the songs that impressed me was ‘Unrelenting scourge of war’. This song is not as aggressive as the other songs and it contains really great melodies.
There is one negative aspect about this album; it is too short. It doesn’t even last 38 minutes, including the intro and outro.
‘Angelgrinder’ was shortened with one song, namely ‘Purify Sweden’. This decision was not for Lord Belial to make, No Fashion Records unanimously decided this. Lord Belial apologizes to their fans that they have released the album without this particular song. The reason that this song is not on the album is due to the extreme lyrics. (These lyrics can be found on their web page.)
Lord Belial will be on tour through Europe in fall 2002, then we can experience its hatred ourselves. So draw your hellpikes and swords and burn the kingdom of Christ… (Pieke) |
