Who said that a white man cannot play the blues? This proves them wrong. Traditional blues from Holland, by long haired, milky white Julian Sas. For several years, the blues has been in the blood of this guitarist/singer from the lowlands. A very varied album, from beautiful, melodramatic slow blues, to up tempo boogie and blues rock. The voice of Julian has turned into one with a real southern bite, and the guitar work is better than ever. No more falling back to the standard licks and tricks, but a real developed (blues) heart translated by the fingertips. | |
The years of experience are starting to pay off, and many influences of the great ones are recognisable, still Julian is starting to find his own way. Last year he supported for Gary Moore, and listening to the title track “Raging River”, Julian must have picked up some ideas there also (or maybe it’s just me wanting to hear that). Together with his veteran drummer Pierre de Haard, and newcomer Tenny Tahamata on bass, Julian has made an album, that blues loving Holland (and across the border) can be proud of. (Cor) |
