Dirtcore is what Boiler calls their music. It can be described as metal with a groove that’s ideal for a slamdance frenzy. Perfect for the European summer festivals. Mix the more groovy tracks from bands like Prong, Biohazard, Pro Pain, Sick Of It All and Pantera with a blue collar working class hero attitude and you’ve got Boiler. The band has been around since 1994 and with hard work and steady progress they’re close to breaking through. I hope they will because there’s a lot of cows in Europe to be tipped. Fun album titels like Cow Tipping In C Sharp would suggest the band’s all about having a laugh but they are very serious about their music. Boiler is a tight unit and the production by Alex Perialas (SOD, Pro Pain) is clear and in your face. | |
The songs are not just a collage of riffs. They’re well structured and almost every song has a nice hook. It seems there’s a lot of songs on the album. The fact is there are some pretty funny interludes. I do think the album could do with some more experiments. It’s all pretty straight forward and aimed at the groove. And -as I said- it does groove. But “Bazooka Joe” for example has a little twist that sets it apart from the rest of the songs. The album could do with more of those surprises. Still, if you’re into any of the bands mentioned and want some good instructions on how to tip a cow, you’d better buy this album a.s.a.p. (Walter) |
