"Demigod" is the second album of German band Ninnghizhidda, founded in 1997. The first track "Prowling Sin" gives the impression that they`ve chosen to leave the black metal path, that was so predominant on their debut album "Blasphemy", as it begins with a raw old school thrash/death-sound. But soon the keyboard reveals that they have not forgotten how bombastic black metal is played. Sometimes it leads to moments that you think ‘didn`t I hear this before’, and the comparison with bands like Dimmu Borgir and even Samael is thus not far-fetched, the latter predominantly because of the voice and the raw guitarsound. The album has a nice flow, with faster moments and resting points, even intermezzos with Romantic influences.

The lyrics are about several themes concerning religion, but because of the sometimes poor use of English do not show them to their full advantage. If you love bombastic songs be sure to listen to "Conquering what once was". It’s one of the most catchy songs on the album. It’s a pity though that some of these atmospheric pieces are ‘complemented’ by unnecessary lead parts that do not add anything to the composition. This album will not shock you with experimental and new ideas within the realm of melodic black metal, but the production, playing level and structure of the album are well above average.
