Belgium has been a fantastic breeding ground for hardcore in the last few years. Just think of Deviate, Liar, Congress and so many more. One of the talented acts in the old school corner of the Belgian hardcore spectrum is Victims of Society. Active since 1994, they’ve already released an album called ‘Way of Life’ on the infamous Lost & Found Records back in 1996.
Their new album ‘Glasgow kiss’ is without a doubt a full go on old school hardcore. Fantastic up-tempo foot thumpers sung with powerful high-pitched vocals. Strummed chords combined with nice flowing power chords make this a strong set of old school hardcore songs. Just listen to ‘I Tried’ and ‘Communication’ and you’ll know what I mean. | |
Check out ‘Hold Me Closer’ for a taste of furiously blasting hardcore. Without a doubt it will create some serious pit action during live shows. Lyrics deal with personal items as well as all around frustrations and discontent. Some of the songs remind me of Ignite back in the ‘Family’ days, which can’t be a bad thing, right? However, fans of Subject To Change, Sick Of It All and A.F. will also love this album.
One note however, what’s up with the 17:44 minutes playing time? Now we all know a decent hardcore album doesn’t need 45 minutes, but 17 minutes is, well, not really much. (Marc) |
