Carl Dixon fails to truly impress with this latest offering through MTM music. Though a good musician he offers some weak compositions on “Into The Future”.
Opening track “Into The Futures” demonstrates this right away. Monotonous and uninspired the song drags along and appears to never end, despite the fact it’s only a four-and-a-half minute tune. A promising riff leads into “Hot Streak”, a song that could have been a foreigner song, Johnny Edwards era. Dixon’s voice reminds me of Johnny anyway, and this I consider a good thing. However, the bridge and chorus of this tune are yet again pretty weak.
Lyrically there’s little to enjoy as well. Plain and simple rock tune lyrics have been done to death, and there’s a shitload of bands out there who’ve done it a whole lot better than Dixon does.
The first track to lift my spirit a bit is “Back To Where We Started”, a poppy tune with a vocal line that reminds me of Don Henley a bit. | |
The chorus is instant sing-along stuff, and Dixon’s vocals here are a bit more daring.
The first ballad is “Lonely You”. Acoustic guitars and slightly reminiscent of The Beatles, this song might actually stand a chance, because of it’s Brit-pop-ish feel. The more intriguing ballad would be the instrumental “Koln” with a more orchestral approach to it than the other material on this album. Don’t let the somewhat odd synthesizer part throw you off too much. Having heard it a couple of times, this is actually a sweet little tune.
A major screw up must have occurred somewhere, cause the 13th track mentioned on the CD inlay is nowhere to be found.
I expected a bit more from Mr. Dixon. Though there’s some good songs on this album, the majority is way too average to truly excite. He can do better, and I hope he will in the future. (Eef) |
