Medication is a ‘miniature’ super group. Band members already featured in Machine Head, Soulfly, Life of Agony and Skrew, so there’s lots of talent present in this outfit. Don’t expect too many influences by aforementioned bands, though. Medication’s music is heavy rock with a few metal edges. If you listen closely you’ll even hear a little 80’s new wave. Think of bands like Stereomud (which also has got ex-Life of Agony members) and Drowning Pool. In other words, typical American rock music (no nu-metal) fuelled with heavy guitars, a lot of dynamic groove, emotional vocals and songs that always plot to a climax. Songs like ‘Loaded Gun’, ‘Hit The Ground’ and ‘No Direction’ are driving, low tuned mid tempo monsters and I mean this in a positive way.

History has taught us that super bands not always write super music. Medication doesn’t disappoint, however. Whitfield Crane’s (he’s the one who had the difficult job of replacing Keith Caputo in Life of Agony) vocals and lyrics are honest and at times very emotional. It feels as if all band members finally took the initiative they didn’t have in their former bands. Although most of the songs are catchy enough, the production left the sharp edges in every one of the songs. Just check out ‘Something New’, a perfect and diverse mix of melody, silence, atmosphere and heavy rock sounds. Fans of groove, melody and heavy rock, go ahead and check out Medication.
