Deviser wants to make music that is not only fast and aggressive, but they want to make music on the thin line where violence and romance meet. I think they have accomplished that, for the ambience on this album is romantic yet vicious.
Nevertheless I have dual thoughts when I listen to this album. On one hand I like the special atmosphere that some of the songs have. Sometimes their music is dreamy and romantic, done with great skill. This dreamy feeling is created by using violins and synths and I like this a lot. On the other hand the vocals are a torture for the ears. I am sorry to say this, but the grunts of Matt sound like an animal that’s out of breath and there is so much reverb on the screams that it has lost its power. | |
In some songs it sounds not too disturbing, but in general the vocals are not a positive addition.
However, the music is alright and it contains all that it should; melodies, ambience, aggression and power. Sometimes the music even reminds me of another Greek band, called Rotting Christ.
For those that want to judge for themselves and want to see them live, Deviser is part of the lineup on the Rockwave festival.
There are so many good black metal bands nowadays, you don’t have to run to the nearest recordshop to buy this album. Although they have a special ambience and the music is well played, there is nothing really special about this band. (Pieke) |
