Intervalle Bizarre, hailing from Czech, are not completely unfamiliar in the death scene: Relapse featured their 2000 promo on the "Czech Assault" compilation album and you might have already seen this band during their 2000 tour. Their new mini-album, "Unexpected Awakening Of Impassive Mass" contains 4 new songs and a Brutal Truth cover (`Walking Corpse`). Stylistically, IB are very brutal deathsters, with razor-sharp riffing and tight-as-fukk drumming. Which makes this band stand out from the rest of the demo bands that I’ve heard lately: the drumming is intensely fast and the multiple vocal styles (different grunts and screams) make the whole very enjoyable. Add to that a very reasonable production and what remains to be said is that I wouldn’t mind at all to hear more from this band!
[8,5/10]
Malignancy on the other hand hail from the States, and already have one big selling point: Mortician`s Roger Beaujard is handling the drum kit here. | |
While the production might not be so tight as for Intervalle Bizarre, the music is clearly enough a progressed version of Mortician. As with Mortician, the vocals are unintelligible and almost unhearable, but Malignancy’s music has real songs with riffs and refrains, something Mortician’s songs deliberately lack. Even though this is not my favourite cup of metal, die-hard death freaks will probably dig this anyway. [6.5/10]
