“Grown from the petri dish of the midwestern basement, Dillinger Four began their journey in making music that makes people want to crash their car and dance around the wreckage in the mid 1990s.” That is how the press info starts, and it`s not far from the truth. If you listen to it, you will immediately understand what is meant by “music that makes people want to crash their car”, etc. In other words, punk rock. And good stuff as well. Dirtier than other acts I have seen and heard lately, they fit in the scene nicely. I don’t know how, but I started comparing Dillinger Four to Sum 41. Well, I do know why actually, but it is still a strange comparison, as Sum 41 are a couple of high school brats with guitars making commercially fertile pop music. Then again, some of their kind of guitar work and vocal style can be found in Dillinger Four, but there it ends. D4 are much –dare I say- grungier. Dirtier is the word, but I already used that. If I try to compare this to a band I recently reviewed, the Peasants, then I think Dillinger Four are more mature. I can’t explain it really, but that is the term that comes to mind.

Guess it has something to do with the fuller sound or something. It can’t be the lyrics of course, because it is punk rock, so it has to be simple and adolescent. Like the Peasant song “I Need A Goddamn Job”, this album has inspiring titles as “A Floater Left With Pleasure In The Executive Washroom”... Well, the lyrics are actually a bit more substantial, but not too much. So that covers most of the album, it just goes on like that until the end. This song, that song, just enough difference to satisfy most listeners. And even a potential single. Track 3, “Fuzzy Pink Handcuffs”, which I think will catch on easily. And although it is in fact less complex than other songs, in this case that is an advantage. I`m not saying that the other tracks are too difficult (we’re still talking highschool punk buyers here), but the fact that this song has only three chords makes it even more accessible, jumpable and air-guitarable. Yeah! Rock on! I hate my parents! School sucks and my girlfriend’s braces hurt my penis!
