If you’re into atmospherically dark indie-rock let us introduce you to codeseven (no capital c). 5 guys from North-Carolina (USA) who, under the influence of acts like Sunny Day Real Estate, Radiohead (back in the OK Computer and The Bends days) and even a little bit of Jeff Buckley, have created 36 minutes of intense and shiveringly beautiful music, assembled on their new album called ‘The Rescue’.
codeseven travel emotional and penetrative roads where intensity reigns supreme. With an occasional distortion outburst (listen to the title track) but much more leaning on calmness and modesty, songs like ‘Smell Of Yellow And Black’, ‘Give It To Us’ and ‘Danger’ will shine bright in any dark night. Each instrument plays a vital part in codeseven’s sound turning ‘The Rescue’ into a very adult piece of craftsmanship. | |
‘The Rescue’ is codeseven’s third album in a time span of 7 years. Together with producer Alex Newport (At The Drive-In, Will Haven and Sepultura) they have put together the next step towards a final breakthrough in the indie ranks. All the songs on the album make use of effective variation of layers that often gather in a beautiful climax. The use of silence or better yet knowing where in the songs to make use of silence is codeseven’s strength. Add to this the fantastic melodies and atmosphere of the album and we’ve got a winner. Buy the album so you to can be the proud owner of an album you can add to your 2002 year list. (Marc) |
